How to Reach Rishikesh

The conference is being hosted at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram which is situated in Rishikesh. The conference starts on the morning of Wednesday- February 21, 2008 and ends after lunch on Sunday- February 25, 2008 .

Please plan to arrive into Rishikesh by the early evening of Tuesday - February 20, 2008 and be ready to depart after 3.00PM on Sunday - February 25, 2008 , unless of course your travel commitments require you to leave earlier.

If you are a foreign tourist, and you are planning to come for this conference only, then the most convenient international airport for you is Delhi airport. Rishikesh is situated at a distance of 250 kms from Delhi and is connected by flight, train, bus and taxi services. The Conference venue, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, is accessible by road, foot and boat or a combination of thereof.

By Road : There are regular buses from Delhi to Haridwar and then Haridwar to Rishikesh. Buses depart almost every hour during the day from Delhi to Haridwar. You can also go by car or taxi from Delhi to Rishikesh or from Haridwar to Rishikesh. A car/taxi from Delhi to Rishikesh will take around 7-8 hours and a taxi from Delhi directly to the venue will take a half hour more.

By Rail : There are several trains between Delhi and Haridwar, the nearest rail station to Rishikesh. Rishikesh does have its own rail station but is barely functional. The journey time from Delhi to Haridwar is about 5-7 hours. Trains from Delhi depart from numerous stations in Delhi, so seek clear instructions from the ticket provider as to the departure station name and address.

By Air : Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun (25 kms away from Rishikesh) is the nearest airport. There are daily scheduled flights from Delhi’s domestic air terminal to Jolly Grant; but the flights often get delayed or cancelled due to bad weather or poor visibility. We do NOT recommend your flying to Jolly Grant, as February is notorious for fog - causing poor visibility and subsequent flight cancellations.

Within Rishikesh: Upon arrival at Haridwar, you can either hire a taxi to take you directly to the venue, or you can take a taxi/bus/auto-rickshaw to the Muni-ki-reti parking lot in Rishikesh which is the parking near Ram Jhula (also called Sivanand Jhula). A taxi will take about 45 mins and the bus/auto rickshaw about an hour. From Ram Jhula you can take a motor boat across Ganga (or walk across the bridge). After crossing the bridge, or coming off the boat, head down-stream of the Ganga (a few hundred metres from the bridge) – until you see a huge beautiful clock tower. That is Parmarth Niketan Ashram.
